Assessments
Specialised assessments to provide support for your child or adolescent
A number of our team provide specialised assessments for children and adolescents. This includes assessment of cognitive abilities, academic/achievement abilities, behavioural assessments, and attention deficit/hyperactivity (ADHD) assessments.
Taking the right steps to ensure correct assessment
In determining which assessment might be most appropriate for your child, we typically meet with you both to undertake an initial intake assessment. From there, we would look at booking an assessment session which may include a range of the following tests:
The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-V)
This is a cognitive assessment of general intelligence. It can be used to show discrepancies between a child’s intelligence and their performance at school and can be used as part of an assessment battery to identify intellectual giftedness, learning difficulties, and cognitive strengths and weaknesses.
The Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT-III)
This is an academic achievement assessment which enables an assessment of a broad range of academic skills. It can also focus on a particular area of need depending on your presenting concerns for your child.
The Conners 4th Edition
This is an instrument that uses both observer and self-report ratings to help assess attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and evaluate areas of challenging behaviour in children and adolescents. If appropriate, this assessment involves parents, teachers and depending on their age, the young person.
